The Queen's Last Room

Some secrets are better remembered than buried.

The story

Versailles, late in the eighteenth century. Élise, a young restorer, is called to repair a painted salon before the evening's entertainment. Under the scraped paint she finds a woman's hand, a thread of blue silk and a warning from Madame Delors, the court painter who has just disappeared.

The Queen asks Élise to find her before evening, quietly. What begins as a favour becomes a night-long investigation through five theatrical rooms built for a courtship game, a studio no one is meant to enter and a terrace waiting for the dawn. By morning, a painter forgotten for twelve years will have her name back.
